Red Hat Fermi Release Version 5.0.2

We are proud to announce the next version of Red Hat Linux officially supported by Fermilab: Red Hat Fermi v5.0.2.

Several packages have been upgraded from v5.0.1 as well as a few additions which should make your life a little easier and your system look more like any other Unix box here at the laboratory. One main goal of creating this version is to increase the security of the system. Since 5.0.1 many packages have been found to have security holes. These packages have been upgraded and are now available for installation on a new machine or to upgrade an existing Red Hat 5.0 or Fermi Linux 5.0.1 machine.

Other packages have been upgraded to fix bugs and to enhance performance. Packages of particular note are

  • kernel kernel 2.0.35-2
  • C libraries (glibc) Glibc 2.0.7-19
  • 5.1 Install Floppy
  • XFree86 2.0.35-2	3.3.2-13 more video cards

Note: If you have installed any version of Red Hat Linux 5.0 we strongly suggest that you back up your important files and home directories and then upgrade. This upgrade will work with both the Red Hat 5.0 versions and the Fermi versions. If you have installed Red Hat 5.1 please contact us. Red Hat 5.1 is NOT SUPPORTED at Fermilab.
